Legendary Rezwana Choudhury Bannya, a renowned exponent of Rabindra Sangeet (Tagore songs), has been honoured with the Padma Shri, India’s fourth highest civilian award, by President Droupadi Murmu.

The ceremony took place on Monday evening at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi. Following the event, separate posts about the awardees were made through the official X handle (formerly Twitter) of the President of India.

The posts highlighted Bannya’s dedicated contributions to the field of Rabindra Sangeet in Bangladesh and recalled her performance of the bhajan “Vaishnav Jan To Tene Kahiye” sung during the 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi.

This year, the Indian government decorated five individuals with the Padma Vibhushan, 17 with the Padma Bhushan, and 110 with the Padma Shri for their significant contributions in various fields.

The event was also attended by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.

Narendra Modi had talks with Bannya at the function.

The Modi government had announced the names of the Padma awardees earlier on the eve of Republic Day (January 26), including Bannya from Bangladesh among the recipients of the Padma Shri award.
