Milton Samaddar, chairman of Child and Old Age Care, was reportedly forging doctors’ signatures to produce fake death certificates, exploiting his influential connections to act with impunity. He believed himself untouchable.

This Thursday, Dhaka’s Speedy Trial Tribunal-2’s Judge, Arunava Chakraborty, heard from Detective Branch (DB) Chief Mohammad Harun Or Rashid at his office on Mintu Road, where he revealed these details. Previously on April 29, after concluding arguments from both sides, Judge Chakraborty scheduled May 9 for the verdict announcement.

During his remand, Samaddar confessed to most of the allegations against him. He admitted to personally writing everything on the fake death certificates after forging doctors’ signatures. Moreover, there were no doctors at his ashram; he would perform surgeries himself using blades and knives.

Many people brought to the ashram exhibited abnormal behaviors due to paralysis or mental instability, and Samaddar would beat them until they were unconscious. He disclosed during the interrogation that during these acts of violence, he was under the influence of Yaba and other drugs, losing all sense of right and wrong, which he admitted was incorrect.

Samaddar’s primary power came from his associations with VIPs, which he believed made him untouchable. He was remanded in two of the three cases filed against him. The DB chief indicated that Samaddar’s wife might also be interrogated again as part of the ongoing investigation.
