Police have announced an indefinite strike in protest against attacks on police stations and the killing of colleagues.

On Monday, after the government’s fall, the police headquarters were also set on fire. In such a situation, the Bangladesh Police Subordinate Employees Association has announced an indefinite strike for the safety of their lives.

On Tuesday (August 6), the organization issued a press release stating that after the resignation of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on August 5, there have been sudden attacks on police members, killing of police officers, vandalism, and arson attacks on police establishments across the country. Nearly 450 police stations were attacked, resulting in the death of countless police officers, which amounts to terrorist activities. In such a situation, the Bangladesh Police Subordinate Employees Association is announcing an indefinite strike nationwide from today, August 6, for the safety of police members.

The Association, in announcing the strike, stated: “If any police officer has committed any wrongdoing, they will certainly be judged. At this time, the safety of police stations and establishments is crucial. The safety of every police member is essential. The strike will continue until the safety of every police officer’s life is ensured.”

Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned on Monday amid mass protests. She then left the country in a military helicopter. After her resignation, widespread attacks occurred on police stations and establishments across the country, resulting in numerous casualties.

President Mohammad Shahabuddin has announced that the 12th National Parliament will be dissolved soon.
