Dr. Nazimuddin “Wasi” Wasiuddin, a renowned Bangladeshi academic and a prominent figure in the American engineering education sector, is set to embark on a new professional journey.

After an impactful 18-year tenure at Louisiana Tech University (LaTech), Dr. Wasiuddin will be joining Mississippi State University (MSU) as a tenured full Professor and will be holding the Materials and Construction Industries (MCI) endowed professorship, marking a significant new chapter in his distinguished career.

Dr. Wasiuddin, who held the prestigious Robert Howson Endowed Professorship in Civil Engineering at LaTech, has been a cornerstone of the university’s College of Engineering and Science. His collaborative research expertise spans multiple departments, including Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering Technology, and Chemical Engineering, making him a vital contributor to the academic and research landscape of the institution.

His departure was marked by an emotional farewell programme organised by the Students’ Association of Bangladesh (SAB) at Louisiana Tech. The event served as a testament to the profound impact he has had, not only as an educator but as a mentor and guide for countless Bangladeshi students pursuing their studies far from home.

Dr. Nazimuddin Wasiuddin Farewell LatechDuring the farewell, both current students and alumni who had studied under him shared heartfelt stories, expressing deep gratitude for his unwavering support. Many described him as a “guardian figure” who helped them navigate the challenges of academic life in a foreign country, always fostering a sense of community and reminding them of their potential.

One former student remarked, “Dr. Wasiuddin was more than our professor; he was our anchor. He built a family for us here at LaTech and showed us what a Bangladeshi academic can achieve on the world stage. We are incredibly proud of him.”

Throughout his career, Dr. Wasiuddin has gained recognition for his innovative research, particularly in the field of sustainable infrastructure. His work on developing durable asphalt pavements using recycled materials, including waste plastics, has garnered national attention and significant funding in the United States.

As Dr. Wasiuddin prepares to bring his wealth of experience to Mississippi State University, his legacy at Louisiana Tech remains firmly cemented. He stands as a shining example of Bangladeshi intellect and perseverance, inspiring a new generation of engineers and scientists to excel globally while holding onto their roots. The Bangladeshi community in academia and beyond wishes him the very best in his new role.
